March

  • Obtains the 2.3GHz broadband wireless access spectrum licence from Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to operate in Sabah and Sarawak to further strengthen the group’s broadband business.
2006 February
  • Announces change of financial year to June - May (from March to February).
April
  • Shareholders approve buy-out offer for the group’s 93% stake in Mobile Money International Sdn Bhd for RM14.88 million cash plus additional proceeds of RM15 million to RM25 million over 10 years from the use of REDtone’s intellectual property rights.
  • Soft launches TravelFon service and opens two TravelFon counters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

  • Appoints new chairman, Dato’ Larry Gan.
July
  • Submits bid to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for WiMax 2.3Ghz spectrum licence.
  • Acquires 60% stake in Jupitel Sdn Bhd to enhance roll-out of 015 broadband Internet telephony service; and 54.5% interest (direct and indirect) in CNX Solutions Sdn Bhd (now known as REDtone CNX Broadband Sdn Bhd) to widen scope of services to include wireless broadband.
  • Declares interim tax exempt dividend of four sen per share for FY’06.

  • REDtone Telecommunications Pakistan (Private) Limited receives 14 year/nine month Card Payphone Licence from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to provide telephone and fax services through card payphone in Pakistan.
February
  • Posts sterling results for FY’05 -- group revenue soared 105% to RM173.9 million (previous year: RM84.6 million proforma revenue) while profit after tax increased 147% to RM25.4 million (previous year: RM10.3 million proforma net profit).
May
  • Expands international presence to Indonesia by teaming up with PT StarCall Siskom of Indonesia.
  • Records group revenue of RM43.1 million and profit after tax of RM6.4 million for Q1 FY‘06.
July
  • Enhances overseas operations with venture into the China market via collaboration with China TieTong Telecommunications Corporation Shanghai Branch Company.
  • Announces proposal to de-merge 93% owned Mobile Money International Sdn Bhd from the group.
August
  • Kuok Group via Kerry Telecommunications (Shanghai) Limited takes up 25% stake in REDtone Telecommunications (China) Limited with remaining 75% held by REDtone’s wholly-owned subsidiary, REDtone Technology Sdn Bhd.
  • Posts group revenue of RM42.3 million and profit after tax of RM6.23 million for Q2 FY’06.
October
  • Launches REDtone015 broadband Internet telephony service as part of a value-added service strategy to grow earnings.
November
  • Confirms that it is not bidding for the 3G license and will instead focus on operating as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) to enhance revenue, especially within the domestic market.
2004 January
  • Lists on the Malaysian Exchange Of Securities Dealing & Automated Quotations (MESDAQ) market of Bursa Malaysia.
March
  • Acquires REDtone MyTel Sdn Bhd to help build the group's small and medium-sized (SME) market segment.
May
  • Posts strong performance for Q1 FY'05 -- turnover rose from RM27.5 million (in Q4 FY '04) to RM34.99 million while profit after tax grew 115% from RM2.99 million to RM6.44 million for the same period.
June
  • Distributes 1st interim dividend totaling RM10.08 million, making it the largest payout by a MESDAQ-listed company then.
August
  • Obtains 20-Year Long Distance & International License from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and establishes REDtone Telecommunications Pakistan (Private) Limited to run the Pakistan operations.
  • Records sterling results for the six months ended Aug 31, ’04 of turnover of RM74.7 million and profit after tax of RM2.2 million. (Note: This compares favourably with FY’04’s turnover of RM84.6 million and profit after tax of RM10 million).
November
  • Obtains Network Service Provider (NSP) license from Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), enabling the group to offer a broader range of services similar to those provided by a full-fledged telco.
  • Records commendable Q3 FY’05 results -- group revenue rose 29.7% from RM39.72 million (in Q2 FY’05) to RM51.51 million while profit after tax grew 22.6% from RM5.76 million (in Q2 FY’05) to RM7.06 million.
