02 Mar Data centre revenue set to hit RM1b
Malaysia’s data centre operators are set to generate a revenue of RM1 billion by next year and RM2.4 billion by 2020, said Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) chief executive officer Datuk Yasmin Mahmood.
Revenue generated by Malaysia’s cloud services and data centre industry grew 26 per cent to RM795 million in 2014 from RM630 million in 2013.
MDeC is confident that the industry could achieve the target, given the 35 per cent growth in the number of data centres during the 2011 – 2014 period.
“The data centre is an economic enabler and a catalyst for a digital economy.
“It is important for us to have them as they will be moving up the value chain,” she said after launching REDtone flexiCloud, the country’s largest business-to-business cloud platform provider, here, yesterday.
REDtone International Bhd has also tied up with China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd for cloud infrastructure services.
Both parties had co-invested RM50 million to RM100 million in the REDtone flexiCloud, said REDtone group managing director Datuk Wei Chuan Beng.
